Travis Blair

Every year, the American Soccer League offers the opportunity for young and ambitious talents to take their skills and techniques to an exciting new level. It's the chance for names who aren't heralded at the moment, to give them a platform to move from the ASL to a higher league in the United States and abroad.

This year, although many players have been incredibly talented and shown a huge amount of positive action over the season, we have the MVP of the ASL Finals. That player is Long Island Express star Travis Blair. His story is as interesting as his talent, and he ended the season in the most dramatic way that he possibly could, scoring the winning goal in the Final.

On November 13th, 2016, the ASL Cup saw the season come to an exciting, tremendous end. The Long Island Express took on the Philadelphia Fury at Rowan University. Both sides met with strong records over the season, with the Fury having only lost once and the Express twice. This was a competition between two excellent soccer teams with an enterprising style of play and an exciting side. The Fury was trying to beat the Express for the third time this season.

However, one of the main attractions was the narrative surrounding Travis Blair, a college All American at Wheaton College. Blair actually started out at the beginning of the season trying out with the Fury. However, he was unable to make the cut of the team that he would eventually cut down himself in a fantastic final match.

Undeterred, Travis earned a spot on the Express, was named captain of the squad and has since established himself as one of the finest players in the league. His technique and talent combines to create an enterprising young star with an eye for the goal, a tactical awareness and a sound work rate that puts many of his professional counterparts to shame.

Travis Blair is now playing for the Philadelphia Fury.
